Notes for a quieter web
Small web.
Clear ideas.
Practical notes on building pages that are readable, predictable, and easy to maintain.
01 / Structure
Start with the document
A page should make sense before a stylesheet is loaded. Give it a descriptive title, use headings in order, and put the essential content in the main document.
Use links for navigation and buttons for actions. A small, well-structured page is easier to read with a keyboard, a screen reader, or a slow connection.
02 / Styles
Keep the palette small
Define a few named colors and spacing values. Reuse them consistently instead of adding a new exception for every section.
:root {
--ink: #20362e;
--paper: #f6f5ef;
--space: 1.5rem;
}System fonts need no download. Comfortable line spacing and a limited text width usually matter more than decorative effects.
03 / Files
Make assets easy to understand
Use readable filenames, explicit file types, and a small directory structure. Version a file when its contents change, and keep examples separate from application data.
The resource shelf contains a starter stylesheet and a tiny JSON example for experiments.
